FAME Academy at Brookhill Elementary has kicked off a new after-school enrichment program this year for PreK through 3rd-grade students. Ballet, Krav Maga and basketball are offered one afternoon per week thanks to an $8,000 grant from The Dekko Foundation.
According to FAME Academy at Brookhill Elementary Principal Amy Williams, “We hope that the FUN at FAME program empowers our students to gain new skills and self-confidence while strengthening peer relationships.”
FAME Academy at Brookhill Elementary integrates project-based, hands-on learning related to the arts for an enriching learning experience. Krav Maga incorporates physical fitness, social development, mental focus, self-discipline, self-defense and environmental awareness. Ballet focuses on smooth coordination, micro-abilities, posture, and balance. Basketball encourages balance, coordination, communication, team building, sportsmanship and more.
Classes are $10 per week for FAME students. Scholarships are available that cover class fees, equipment and even transportation.
“Our goal is to provide the opportunity for our students to experience enriching activities in a safe, supportive environment, regardless of financial or transportation barriers or limitations,” said Williams.
The Dekko Foundation, a private family foundation located in Kendallville, Ind., invests in projects and programs that help build knowledge, skills, and character in children and young people so they can grow up to achieve economic freedom.
