A Niagara Falls heavy machinery manufacturer is preparing to close its Western New York operations as soon as August.
According to published reports, Nuttall Gear will be closing down its facility in the 2200 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice filed with the New York State Department of Labor.
A WARN notice is triggered when “a covered employer, typically with 100 or more employees, plans to close a plant or facility, or conduct a mass layoff.”
According to reports from News4Buffalo (WIVB TV) and Business First, Nuttall’s notice to the state indicates that the closure of its Niagara Falls operations will take place between Aug. 8 and the end of this year.
The reason for the closure is listed in the notice as “a business relocation.”
Nuttall currently employs 68 people at its Falls facility. It says it will lay off 32 non-union employees as part of the shutdown of operations.
Founded in 1887, Nuttall describes itself as “a leading manufacturer of reliable heavy-duty gear drive solutions for industrial applications.”
