Niagara Falls firefighters rescued a dog from a 77th Street house fire early Sunday morning.
Falls firefighters, along with city police and an AMR crew, responded to the structure fire in the 500 block of 77th Street about 12:15 a.m. Sunday.
Arriving firefighters were confronted with heavy fire in the rear of the structure. An adjacent camper and garage were also engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire a short time later.
The occupants were not home at the time but a neighbor advised emergency personnel that there was possibly a dog still inside. During a search, a dog was located inside a crate on the first floor. The dog was brought outside and given a bit of oxygen by AMR medics and is expected to be ok. It was turned over to the neighbor.
The homeowner was contacted and responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
