Law enforcement sources say the discovery of a body in Cayuga Creek on Friday evening “does not appear to be suspicious.”
The body of an adult male was located in the creek, in the 8700 block of Buffalo Avenue, by a Niagara Falls Police detective who was involved in what was described as “an ongoing investigation.”
Firefighters from the Niagara Falls Fire Department were called in to assist police with recovering the body from the water. The body was taken to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office in Buffalo, where an autopsy was performed on Saturday.
Sources with knowledge of the investigation said the autopsy showed no visible signs of trauma on the body. A final determination on the cause and manner of death has not been made yet.
The incident remains under investigation by Criminal Investigation Division (CID) detectives.
