The Fairfield Glade Ladies Club will hold the October meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at The Center, 128 Stonehenge Drive in Crossville. Doors open at 10 a.m. with the business meeting starting at 11 a.m.
Our program for the October meeting is Tennessee True Tales and Folklore presented by Lori Bowers and Joyce Rorobaugh of the Cumberland County Archives and Family Heritage.
Ladies’ Club Members and guests can expect to hear some local history and even a spooky tale or two told about our area. For a little extra fun, attendees are invited to dress up to honor Tennessee, familiar folk stories or enjoy wearing a fall costume.
The mission of the archives organization is “Preserving the past for future generations.” They collect, preserve, and interpret historic artifacts, documents, photographs, and other materials and maintain the county’s earliest extant records as well as reference and genealogical materials and cemetery records.
They also offer classes, programs, and events. The recent renovation of their beautiful building makes their mission more attainable and offers a comfortable setting for anyone to pursue local history or family records from digital or archived sources.
They are also currently seeking a few dedicated volunteers who would like to donate a few hours each week.
Their hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You may contact them at (931) 456-2006 or by email: archives@artcirclelibrary.info. Their webpage is https://artcirclelibrary.info/archives, and their address is Cumberland County Archives & Family Heritage Center, 95 East First Street in Crossville.
The service project for October is the Peavine Care Center. They will be accepting donations by cash or check. Money collected will be used to purchase bags of food for distribution.
Members of the Ladies’ Club will also be able to pick an Angel Tree child for whom to purchase Christmas items. This is a House of Hope event. They are requesting AA & AAA batteries, youth-sized outfits for girls and boys, and men’s sweatpants.
Items will be collected at the November meeting. Each year during Christmastime, children are referred to the House of Hope through caseworkers, relative care and foster families that need help. The House of Hope normally provides Christmas gifts for 500 children per year and all gifts are wrapped by community volunteers.
The meal for the meeting is fruit and vegetable melange salad, shredded BBQ pork, macaroni and cheese, cornbread muffins and banana pudding. The vegetarian entrée is a fruit and vegetable melange salad on a bed of spinach. Fairfield Glade Ladies Club PO Box 2004 Crossville, Tennessee 38558.
Online reservations for the luncheon can be made on a first-come, first-serve basis from 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22 through 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 on the club website (www.fgladiesclub.com).
Those without Internet access may call 931-200-9749 from 8 a.m. to noon on Sept. 26 to make reservations. Cancellations must be made by 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, to avoid financial responsibility for your meal.
