Laurie Birt, the Coordinator of Special Events, for Smokey Mountain Service Dogs will be the guest speaker at the October Fairfield Glade Garden Club meeting.
The program, based in Loudon County, specializes in training support dogs for veterans and first responders disabled in the line of duty. Birt will describe the dogs’ pre-training and matching process. Afterward, each dog is provided at no cost to veterans or first responders.
The meeting will be held Oct. 15 at the Fairfield Glade Community Church at 521 Snead Drive beginning at 9:30. Members and visitors are welcome to arrive at 9 a.m. for pre-meeting refreshments. The featured program will follow the business meeting.
