Essex County Habitat for Humanity has named Kevin Moore as its new executive director.
Moore spent the last 18 years in other senior positions with Habitat for Humanity branches in Connecticut and Rhode Island, most recently serving as chief operating officer for the organization’s Coastal Fairfield County branch, according to a statement from the nonprofit.
In that role, he oversaw construction, family services and ReStore operations.
Moore first worked with Habitat for Humanity as a volunteer college student while earning a degree in public and community service studies from Providence College, according to the statement.
He will begin in his new role on Sept. 1.
“The need for affordable homeownership has never been greater,” Moore said in the statement. “I’m excited to learn about the unique needs of each community throughout Essex County and work alongside municipalities, volunteers, donors and community partners to build and preserve affordable homeownership opportunities that make sense for each community.
“Together, I believe we can expand our reach, build and repair more homes each year, and transform even more families’ lives through safe, decent and affordable housing,” he said.
The Essex County Habitat Board chose Moore for the role because of his many years with the nonprofit, as well as his “collaborative leadership style and unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission.”
“Kevin has dedicated his career to Habitat for Humanity and understands every aspect of the organization — from construction and family partnerships to ReStore operations and community collaboration,” Board President Tina Benik said in the statement.
“His experience, vision, and passion make him the ideal leader to guide Essex County Habitat into its next chapter of growth and impact.”
