THOMASVILLE — The Thomas County Central High School FCCLA/FGE Staff Member of the Month for March is math teacher Billy Esra. Students vote for each month’s winner and select adults they admire for their exemplary dedication to their jobs and the pupils they serve.
Esra’s nominating students said he positively impacts their lives daily, including helping those who’ve always struggled with math not only pass but attain A’s and B’s in his class.
Student Cara Thacker said Esra is an amazing teacher who’s great at helping students, and pupil Ella Barwick concurs.
“He goes out of his way to help other students and make sure they get a great education,” Barwick said. “He makes sure his kids are happy in his classroom and always has a smile on his face. He is always excited to do his job and to see the kids in his classroom learn new things.”
Esra said he was flabbergasted when students told him the news.
“It was unexpected but made my day,” he said. “I teach mathematics, and I love it. My students work hard to learn a sometimes difficult subject, and I am proud of all of their hard work this year.”
