LIVINGSTON, Ala. — East Mississippi Community College’s Dylan Delmas claimed team roping honors at the UWA Rodeo Showdown held Sept. 28-29 on the University of West Alabama campus.
The three-day NIRA Ozark Region event concluded with Saturday’s championship round contested at UWA’s Hines-Spree Rodeo Complex.
Delmas paired with UT Martin’s Caden Ussery to post a winning aggregate time of 16.3 seconds and claim his third career team roping victory as an EMCC rodeo team member. The tandem finished fourth in the first go-round and second the following round with respective times of 8.6 and 7.7 seconds to earn 140 team points apiece.
From Athens, Alabama, Delmas previously paired with EMCC teammate Waylon Buskirk to post team roping wins at last year’s West Alabama-hosted event and at Pearl River’s rodeo this past spring.
In the final team standings from the weekend, EMCC men placed seventh with 160 total team points, while the EMCC women did not score.
Host West Alabama claimed the women’s team title by just 20 points (280-260) over co-runners-up Missouri Valley College and Pearl River Community College. The tables were turned on the men’s side, as MVC edged the host UWA Tigers by only five team points, 555-550.
The other 20 points for the EMCC men’s team were earned by Carson Powell in the tie-down roping competition. The Benton, Arkansas native also advanced to Saturday’s championship round in steer wrestling, though he did not place.
Saddle bronc rider Tyler Wilson, along with EMCC’s team roping duo of Dylan Jones and James Max Fenn, made it back to Saturday’s finals as well for the Lions but did not score.
In addition, Karson Moore advanced to Saturday’s short-go round for the EMCC women’s team but did not place in the breakaway roping event.
Head coach Morgan Goodrich’s EMCC rodeo teams continue NIRA Ozark Region fall competition this week by traveling to Monticello, Arkansas for the three-day event hosted by the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
