ELLERSLIE — An Ellerslie man died as a result of a two-vehicle crash on state Route 35 Saturday morning, according to Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Jacob Martel.
Donald Lee Propst Sr., 80, of Ellerslie was flown by a Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he died, Martel said.
The crash involving a pick-up truck and a car was reported just before 11:30 a.m. in the 13500 block of Ellerslie Road between Jason Lane and Bloom Street, Martel said.
Propst was operating a 1994 Chevrolet GMT 400 truck and was not restrained at the time of the collision, Martel said. He was thrown from the truck.
The second vehicle, a Subaru, was operated by a juvenile who sustained minor injuries and was transported to UPMC Western Maryland by ambulance.
“The juvenile was seat belted and his airbags deployed,” Martel said.
Martel said the identity of the juvenile will not be released.
Units from Ellerslie, Corriganville, Mount Savage and LaVale volunteer fire departments, ambulances from LaVale Rescue and Allegany County Department of Emergency Services, and two county EMS supervisors responded.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office crash reconstruction team, Martel said.
