JANESVILLE — Lori Mittelstaedt of Janesville wanted to do something special for a friend’s kids for Easter.
What better way than to have plastic Easter eggs plopped on their lawn?
The Egg My Yard event is the brainchild of Tiffany Brown, founder and president of nonprofit Tiny Baby Palace. The organization is a foster-based kitten and puppy rescue in Janesville.
Brown has a $400 fundraising goal, with the hope of egging upward of 20 area yards. With the funds raised she’ll buy an additional incubator for in-need orphaned newborns.
At Mittelstaedt’s friend’s yard, plastic eggs will be filled with fidgets and candy. For $60, the friend’s two kids, ages 8 and 11, also will receive themed Easter baskets matching their interests. Jacob, 8, will receive a car-themed basket and Melanie, 11, will get an animal-themed basket.
“Tiffany has this way of coming up with these different ideas that most people don’t even think about,” said Mittelstaedt, who is also a Tiny Baby Palace volunteer. “I thought it was really cool that she went in the direction of kids and decided to do an Easter fundraiser.”
It’s the first year for the Egg My Yard fundraiser for Tiny Baby Palace. Brown is willing to adorn yards in Waseca, Mankato, Janesville, Eagle Lake, Madison Lake, St. Clair, Waterville and North Mankato.
Together with volunteers, Brown will distribute eggs starting at 8 p.m. Saturday. The deadline to book is Friday.
Brown is offering 15 eggs plus a mystery bag for $25; 20 eggs only for $15; 25 eggs plus an Easter basket for $40; and 30 eggs only for $25. Other options are available upon request.
Mittelstaedt plans to visit her friend’s house Easter morning to see the kids’ reactions.
“I think they’re going to be absolutely blown away,” she said. “I can’t wait.”
