On Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, Effingham City Police received a complaint of a battery to a student under the age of 13, which occurred at Unit 40 Effingham Junior High School (EJHS) that same morning.
After investigating, Effingham officers arrested David B. Parker, 65, Effingham, on a single charge of Aggravated Battery to a Child Under the Age of 13. Parker is a Teacher’s Aide at Unit 40.
Parker was taken into custody by Effingham Police and booked into the Effingham County Jail on Tuesday, Nov. 14. at approximately 10:07 a.m.
Aggravated Battery to a Child Under the Age of 13 is a Class 3 Felony and carries a sentence of 5 to 10 years in prison with fines up to $25,000.
The student sustained minor injuries during the occurrence and no other students or faculty were involved.
After being alerted to the allegation, Effingham Unit 40 administration fully cooperated with law enforcement in all investigative matters concerning this incident.
No additional details will be released at this time as the case has been turned over to the Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office for consideration of prosecution.
