Effingham County 4-H members partnered with the Effingham County Soil and Water Conservation District to complete a tree planting project at the Effingham County Fairgrounds.
Members from the Robotics Club, Inside Out 4-H Club, Shumway Eagles 4-H Club and Sassy Stitchers 4-H Club worked together to plant trees as part of the Forestry Committee and Extension 4-H Tree Planting Project. The project supports environmental stewardship while providing youth with hands-on learning opportunities focused on conservation and community service.
The trees were planted at the Effingham County Fairgrounds, where they will provide long-term benefits including shade, habitat and improved environmental quality. Bahrns Equipment in Effingham provided the equipment needed to dig the holes for planting.
“This project is a great example of youth giving back to their community while learning valuable skills,” said Patti Logan, Extension Program Coordinator with University of Illinois Extension. “These members took pride in their work, and the impact of what they did will be seen for years to come.”
“We are proud to partner with 4-H on a project that promotes conservation and community involvement,” said Denise Willenborg of the Effingham County Soil and Water Conservation District. “It is encouraging to see young people take an active role in caring for natural resources.”
The project reflects the mission of 4-H to develop leadership, citizenship and life skills while giving back to the community. For more information about Effingham County 4-H programs, contact the Effingham County Extension Office at 217-347-7773.
