The Kiwanis Club of Traverse City recognized the following “Student of the Month” this past week:
Morgan Jones-Baldwin is a senior at Traverse City West Senior High School, a member of West’s choir program (co-chair), has participated in athletics, school plays, and sung in curricular and non-curricular choirs. Honors received include: TC West scholarship for private voice lessons and commended student from the National Merit Scholarship Competition with a 3.91 GPA. Morgan plans to attend Northwestern Michigan College to study music education with plans to become a choir director.
Cameron Hathaway, a senior at Traverse City West Senior High School, is a member of Traverse City West band (principal percussionist, tenor drum section leader and drumline drum captain). He has participated in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association all-state ensembles twice, as fourth chair in 2023, and first chair this year. Honors received include TCW academic awards for four years. Cameron maintains a 3.90 GPA and plans to attend Kalamazoo College to study music and political science.
Zoey Jetter, a senior at Traverse City St. Francis High School, is a member of the National Honor Society and Teens for Life. She has participated in varsity softball, basketball, tech crew for musicals, and marching band. Honors received include academic excellence for honor geometry, Spanish, chemistry, the Character Commitment Compassion Award, BCAM Team 1st and Softball all-state honorable mention. Zoey maintains a 4.23 weighted GPA and plans to attend Michigan Tech to study engineering.
Brady Stoops is a senior at Traverse City Christian High School and a member of East Bay Calvary Church (hospitality team). He has participated in varsity basketball, baseball and Spanish 3-4. Honors received include 3.5+ GPA all four years – honor roll, and the Academic Athlete Award. Brady maintains a 3.95 GPA and plans to attend Northwestern Michigan College to study finance to become a financial adviser.
Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) announced that two of its students are finalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Less than 1 percent of all U.S. high school seniors reach this level of academic achievement. About 1.3 million juniors took the 2023 PSAT/NMSQT, which served as the initial screen of program entrants.
Traverse City West Senior High School students Madeline Bildeaux and Jackson Hochstetler were among the 16,000 2025 National Merit Semifinalists. These students now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 6,870 National Merit Scholarships.
“Being recognized as a National Merit Scholar finalist is a prestigious honor and we are incredibly proud of these students and their academic achievement,” said Dr. John VanWagoner, TCAPS superintendent. “We also acknowledge all TCAPS K-12 staff for their ongoing dedication to every student’s success and academic journey.
The Annette Basler Memorial Scholarship program is offering two $1,000 scholarships. The scholarships are available to area schools’ graduating seniors who are permanent Green Lake Township residents or who have attended Interlochen Elementary School for at least one year.
