VALDOSTA — A packed house in the Lowndes County Civic Center witnessed 49 students from Lowndes, Lanier, and Echols counties exhibit hogs at the 47th Annual Lowndes Area Market Hog Show culminating on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
The exhibitors were first through twelfth grade students and some were either members of FFA or 4H.
Kennedy Newham of Echols 4H exhibited the Grand Champion. Cannon Taylor of Lanier 4H exhibited the Reserve Champion hog. Other Top Five hogs included: 3rd Overall, Brooke Stone of Lowndes FFA; 4th Overall, Levi Rowland of Lowndes FFA; and, 5th Overall, Charly Majeski of Echols 4H.
Weight class winners included: Class 1, Madelyn Beecher of Lanier County; Class 2, Drew McCurdy of Lanier County; Class 3, Kennedy Newham of Echols 4H; Class 4, Peyton Stone of Lanier FFA; Class 5. Charly Majeski of Echols 4H: Class 6, Levi Rowland of Lowndes FFA; Class 7, Cannon Taylor of Lanier 4H; and Class 8, Brooke Stone of Lowndes FFA.
Showmanship winners included: Grade 1, Hudson Bolling of Lanier County; Grade 2, Judson Corbett of Echols County; Grade 3, Cannon Taylor of Lanier 4H; Grade 4, Luke Stone of Lanier 4-H; Grade 5, Colby Davis of Echols 4H; Grade 6, Harper Copeland of Echols FFA; Grade 7, Chary Majeski of Echols 4H; Grade 8, Tara Millions of Lowndes 4H; Grade 9, Skyla Blank of Lanier FFA; Grade 10, Peyton Stone of Lanier FFA; Grade 11, Brooke Stone of Lowndes FFA; and, Grade 12, Kenna Corbett of Echols FFA.
Overall Showmanship classes of the grade level showmanship winners was held. Harper Copeland of Echols 4-H won Junior Overall Showmanship. Kenna Corbett of Echols FFA won the Senior Overall Showmanship.
The classified show judge was Bryant Oliver. Judge Oliver praised the exhibitors in the event for the quality of the animals. Kyle Mendes was the Showmanship Judge.
The sale followed on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the same venue. It began with the auction of the Grand Champion hog at 7 p.m.
