BAKER, W.Va. — East Hardy exploded for 60 points in the first half and cruised to an 83-25 win over Harman in the Class A, Region II playoffs Thursday.
The Cougars (19-4), who have won 14 games in a row, led 34-2 after the first quarter and 60-5 at the half before taking their foot off the gas pedal.
Evan Hamilton poured in 25 points — 24 of which came in the first half on eight 3-pointers. Trevor Roof joined him with 12, the only other player in double figures as 11 Cougars scored in total.
Grady Shifflett led the way for Harman with 18 points.
East Hardy advances to the co-region final where it will host Union (11-11), a 52-42 winner over Tygarts Valley in the other semifinal, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a trip to the Class A state tournament.
Union 52, Tygarts Valley 42
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. — Union hit its free throws down the stretch and got stops on the other end to defeat Tygarts Valley in the Class A, Region II playoffs Thursday.
Union (11-11) and Tygarts Valley were tied at 30 entering the fourth after the Tigers led 9-7 and 18-17 after two tightly contested opening periods.
Braylon Ward scored 13 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth, including a 6-for-7 performance at the free-throw line in the decider, to help Union close it out. Ward also had six rebounds and four assists.
Union’s Corbin Streets recorded a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Eric Linkswiler added five points and eight boards.
Tygarts Valley was paced by Jacob Wamsley and Parker Bell with 17 and 13 points, respectively.
Union heads to top-seeded East Hardy (19-4) in the co-region finals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Tucker Co 95, Paw Paw 48
HAMBLETON, W.Va. — Paw Paw saw its season come to an end, falling to Tucker County in the Class A, Region II playoffs Thursday.
Paw Paw finishes with a 9-14 record.
Tucker led 21-8, 47-23 and 68-33 after the first three quarters and made 42 field goals.
Scoring in double figures for Tucker were Ethan Cummings with 19 points, Sam Marks at 18, Cayden Arnold with 18 and Xavier Lambert at 12.
Taylor Carder paced Paw Paw with 25 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and Braylen Paul added 14. The Pirates were 17 for 19 at the free-throw line.
