SIDNEY — Tim Green had a home run and a double as top-seeded Schenevus/Charlotte Valley won a Section IV Class D baseball title with an 8-3 victory over No. 3 Gilboa-Conesville/Roxbury on Friday, May 29.
With both teams’ ace pitchers out because they had pitched to the limit in Tuesday’s semifinals, Sawyer Bridger came up big for the Dragons, allowing four hits while striking out six in four plus innings.
Brayden Poliseno got the final eight outs, including a strike out to end the fifth inning with runners on second and third.
Garrison Ross took the loss for G-C/R despite striking out eight batters in five innings. He also had two hits, an RBI and scored a run.
The RocketCats intentionally walked Green twice and when they pitched to him, he took advantage, nailing a solo shot over the left field fence in the third inning to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead, and a stand-up double to the wall in the sixth inning. He also scored twice.
Bridger doubled and scored and Allen Osborne tripled and scored and also had two RBI for S/CV.
The Dragons broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning that included a double by Ethan Reed, a single by Michael Competiello and Osborne’s triple.
Schenevus/Charlotte Valley (15-3) and Gilboa-Conesville/Roxbury (10-4) will play again in a sub-regional game at 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 2, in Sidney.
Oneonta 9, Susquehanna Valley 4
Jameson Brown had three RBI as top-seeded Oneonta three-peted as section champs with a win over SV in the Section IV Class B finals Friday at Union-Endicott.
Brady Carr got the win, giving up four hits and four walks in six innings while striking out six. He also had two hits and two RBI.
Grayson Brockington came on in relief in the seventh with two runners on, but retired three straight batters to preserve the win.
Nate Woytach had a two-out, two-run double which gave the Yellowjackets a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning.
Nolan Stark had two hits and an RBI for Oneonta, which also got two hits from Chase Jervis.
Oneonta (18-5) will play the Section III Class B winner in a sub-regional game scheduled for Tuesday at U-E.
The Section III semifinals are Saturday, May 30, with the finals scheduled for Monday, June 1, in Syracuse.
