CANTON — Ticonderoga’s Jackson Dorsett pitched a complete game victory in Friday’s 12-3 win over Section X’s Tupper Lake in a NYSPHSAA Class C baseball regional final at St. Lawrence University.
Dorsett’s performance on the mound, however, was overshadowed by what he did at the plate.
He went 5-for-5, including three singles, a double, a triple and five RBIs. And there were no bloopers among them.
“I really liked how we took control from the beginning of the game,” Ticonderoga coach Dan Dorsett said.
“Jackson’s triple in the first inning was big to get the lead early. He looked strong on the mound, as well, striking out six in the first three innings.”
Dorsett allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out 10 in going the distance for the win.
Friday’s win advanced the Section VII champions into the Class C Final Four this weekend at Binghamton’s Mirabito Stadium.
The Sentinels (14-6) will play Section V’s Kendall, a 1-0 regional winner over Section III’s Beaver River, in the state semifinals Friday at 10 a.m.
The other semifinal has Section II’s Saratoga Central Catholic taking on Section I’s Tuckahoe at 1 p.m. The championship game is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
Rowen Bechtold, Skyler Frasier and Brady Mydlarz all added two hits each for the Sentinels in a 14-hit attack.
The Sentinels jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, with Jack Dorsett’s two-run triple being the big blow, and added three more in the second for a 6-0 lead with Jack Dorsett and Bechtold getting RBI singles.
It was a rough start for the Lumberjacks, who had their pitchers walk seven batters over the first two innings.
Ticonderoga never looked back while closing it out with three runs in the seventh inning.
“I am very pleased with our total team effort the last few games,” Dan Dorsett said. “Multiple players have stepped up and done a great job.
“Rowen Bechtold has been great all year. Brady Mydlarz’s defense at third base has been top notch. Blaek Peters has taken his offense to another level, and Parker Davis, as well.
“Different guys in different situations have been key for our success lately.”
Charlie Skiff and Knaullyn Durfee paced the Lumberjacks with two hits each. Colton Benware got a triple and Skiff and Durfee doubles.
Tupper Lake pitchers surrendered 14 hits, 12 walks and a hit batter while striking out 11 in the contest.
“Our goal every year is to win the sectionals,” Dan Dorsett said. “We have been fortunate to have won six straight now but have not been able to get over the hump in regional play. So we are very excited about getting back to the Final Four.
“Coach (Rick) McClintock has our defense playing at a high level. This is our third Final Four in the last eight years, so I could not be more proud of our program and happy for our community.
“Our town is a baseball town from Little League all the way up.”
