It was another strong showing on the local cross country scene at Saturday’s Divisional meets across the state.
In total, six Daily News area teams qualified for next week’s State Meets as entire squads. For the boys, it was Triton moving on to next week as a full unit, while Newburyport finished eighth in Division 2B and is the first wild card placer. Meanwhile on the girls side, Amesbury, Newburyport, Pentucket and Triton all finished inside of the top-7 at Divisionals to qualify for States.
So lets start with the girls.
As far as team success was concerned, Newburyport was our best finisher. The Clippers took second out of 20 teams in Division 2B with 108 points, trailing only Wakefield (91) in first. A team needed to finish inside of the top-7 to advance fully to States next week, and the top-15 individual runners in each division were given medalist honors. Which the Clippers had one such runner in senior Abby Kelly, who placed eighth out of 140 competitors on the Wrentham Development course in 19:44.8. She was followed by teammates Blake Parker in 21st (20:28.2), Bristol Banovic in 25th (20:50.7), Devin Stroope in 27th (21:00.1) and Lydia Boddy in 34th (21:13.5).
The story of the day locally, however, might have come from Division 3A.
After placing 1-2 at the CAL Open two weeks ago, Pentucket’s Kaylie Dalgar and Susan Wisniewski finished 2-3 in the entire division on Saturday. Dalgar, the senior UMass commit, crossed the finish line in 19:48.09, while the freshman Wisniewski was right behind in 20:14.45. CeCe Cammett (30th, 23:03.37), Audrey Conover (41st, 23:33.39) and Morgan Dewey (76th, 25:24.42) rounded out the top-5 for the Panthers, who placed fourth as a team with 139 points.
And the Triton girls weren’t too far behind. The Vikings placed seventh as a team with 152 points to advance to States, with Ava Burl (8th, 21:10.49), Maecy Gay-Killeen (22:46.17) and Julia Blanchet (39th, 23:32.03) leading the way.
Finally for the girls, Amesbury finished seventh in Division 3B with 172 points. Daily News All-Star Julia Parsons paced the Redhawks in seventh (21:06.01), with Cambyr Sullivan (15th, 22:07.94), Abby Morin (22nd, 22:50.75) and Lindsey Williamson (67th, 25:10.19) all finishing inside of the top half of the 140 runners.
BOYS: TRITON PLACES 4TH; BEAUPARLANT ALSO 4TH IN DIVISION 3A
There was one standout performance in Division 3A, and one team moving on to States.
Pentucket will not be making the trip as a team next week, but Jackson Beauparlant will. The junior finished fourth overall out of 177 runners at the Northfield Mountain course, crossing the line in 17:06.80.
The team moving on as a unit, though, is Triton.
It’s been a display of depth all season long for the Vikings, and that remained the case on Saturday in finishing fourth with 176 points. Zach Lyon earned himself a medalist honor after placing 15th overall (18:00.51), and he was followed by Duncan MacDonald in 19th (18:14.61), Cassidy McBee in 22nd (18:18.45), Bryce Martis in 58th (19:39.69) and John Prendergast in 62nd (19:43.06).
Newburyport, as previously mentioned, finished eighth in Division 2B with 263 points and is the first wild card for States. Michael Mohoric was the top Clipper in 24th (16:53.0), and Ben Perrone (53rd, 17:43.3), Aimon Fadil (57th, 17:48.1) and Alex Lisauskas (64th, 17:56.4) all put together solid races.
