TIFTON — Tift County and Houston County are set to resume their series Thursday, April 6, at Devil Diamond. The doubleheader will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Rain is predicted for Friday, causing Tift to change the date.
Houston won the first game of the series Tuesday, 10-4, the Blue Devils’ first loss in nine games. A 6th inning grand slam gave the Bears breathing room. Until then, it had been a close contest.
Two runs in the 2nd gave Houston an early lead, but Tift rallied to go ahead 3-2 in the 4th.
Mac Brooks tied it 2-all with a single, scoring Tyler Holmes and Brady Moretz. Brooks scored later in the 4th on Tyler VanSumeren’s base hit. Moretz came home on a 7th inning wild pitch for the fourth run, according to official stats.
John Dorman was the starting pitcher for Tift. John Davis recorded three hits.
The Blue Devils began the week with a bonus: MaxPreps’ updated rankings put them at No. 1, not only in 6A, but in Georgia. They are now 20-3 for the season.
