DERRY — A fire at Old Auburn Road home displaced a family and their pets on Wednesday evening.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., Derry firefighters received a call about a fire at a two-story, single family home at 24 Old Auburn Road, with the caller saying they saw smoke rising from the building.
The three occupants of the house and pets were evacuated before the fire department arrived. One of the occupants was taken to Parkland Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Wednesday night, the occupants and their pets were assisted with temporary housing by The Red Cross.
The fire was declared a working fire while firefighters were being dispatched, a report by the Derry Fire Department said.
The department dispatched two engines, two ladders, and multiple crews. Mutual aid was provided by fire department from Pelham, Londonderry, Windham, Chester, Auburn, Sandown and Hampstead.
When firefighters arrived, they reported fire and smoke coming from the front of the building. It took approximately an hour and 15 minutes to get the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by police and the Bureau of Fire Prevention. At this time, officials said they do not consider the cause of the fire to be suspicious.
