Cape Ann’s Democratic committees are hosting an online forum featuring current 5th Essex District state Rep. Andrew “Dru” Tarr and challenger Sarah Wilkinson.
The forum will be held via Zoom at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. and anyone interested in attending may do so at https://bit.ly/3HTMNoh.
It will begin with both candidates discussing their platforms and vision for Cape Ann and audience members will be able to ask questions afterward. The The 5th Essex District covers Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea.
Tarr is serving out the remainder of Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante’s term following her passing last November. He was elected to the position this spring during a special election when Wilkinson ran a write-in campaign.
Wilkinson is a former Rockport Select Board member, a position she held for more than 18 years, including five terms as chair. Before winning the special election, Tarr worked as a legislative aide on Ferrante’s staff for nine years.
On the Republican side of the primary ballot is Manchester-by-the-Sea’s Christina Delisio who won the Republican nomination during the special election.
Not appearing on the primary ballot will be Essex’s Gilbert Frieden who is running as an independent. Frieden’s name however will appear on the Nov. 3 election ballot.
Whoever is elected Nov. 3 will serve a two-year term.
