The New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) announced its all-state football teams for the 2024 season on Wednesday.
Section IV Class D Champion Delhi led the local ranks with four players earning all-state honors. Running back Ian Johnson and linebacker Adam Cook were named to the First Team in Class D, receiver Rocco Schnabel was named to the Second Team and kicker Lucas Nealis earned an honorable mention.
The quartet helped the Bulldogs win their first sectional title since 2006 by defeating three-time defending state champion Tioga 22-21 in overtime of the Class D title game.
Johnson finished the season with 1,328 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns and added another score through the air. Schnabel was the Bulldogs’ leading receiver with 23 catches for 318 yards and five touchdowns while also serving as a key blocker for the rushing tandem of Johnson and Cook.
Walton and Bainbridge-Guilford each had two players earn all-state honors in Class D. Linebacker Darrin Walley (Second Team) and offensive lineman Landon Taylor (honorable mention) received recognition for the Warriors, while receiver Declyn Marshfield (Second Team) and quarterback Connor Davy (honorable mention) were both honored for the Bobcats.
Earning honorable mention nods in their respective classes were Oneonta lineman Ethan Harrington (Class B), Sidney quarterback Dylan Easton (Class C) and U/F/UV/G-MU defensive back Carl DeDominicis (8-Man).
