The Pentucket football team is just two games into the season, and Jackson Miller already has two game-clinching plays.
Talk about being “Captain Clutch.”
Friday night, with 30 seconds left on the clock, Miller came away with a game-ending interception to seal Pentucket’s victory over visiting Medway, 14-13. The Panthers — coming off a Week 2 bye — are now 2-0 for the first time since 2021, and the victory also avenges the team’s loss at the buzzer to the Mustangs last year. Then two weeks ago, during the team’s opening game of the season, Miller came up with the game-ending reception that allowed the Panthers to kneel out a win over Northeast Metro.
The result: The Panthers are undefeated.
And another great sign for the home team was that Nick Carrion was back.
The senior captain was injured at the end of the first quarter during Pentucket’s first game and didn’t return. But Carrion was back on Friday night, and he caught both touchdown passes from Steven Harper. He hauled in a 30-yarder early in the game, then took a screen 85 yards to the house to cap his 4-catch, 138-yard day. Harper finished completing 8-of-12 passes for 208 yards and the two touchdowns, and Miller had both 50 receiving yards on three catches, and 47 rushing yards on 11 totes.
Pentucket will now travel to take on fellow undefeated Amesbury (2-0) on Friday night with a 6:30 scheduled kickoff.
