As planning moves forward for Niagara County’s Purple Heart celebration in August, anyone who knows of a Purple Heart veteran not already included in the Book of Honor must submit the necessary paperwork by May 30 to be part of the celebration.
The Purple Heart Celebration will take place on Aug. 3 at the Purple Heart Monument located at the Niagara County Courthouse.
County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said there are more than 400 names on the Purple Heart Monument and in the Book of Honor. The Purple Heart is a military decoration awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who were wounded or killed by enemy action.
To be included in the county’s Book of Honor and to take part in this year’s event, Purple Heart veterans or their families must complete a short application that can be obtained at https://cms5.revize.com/revize/niagaracounty/PURPLE%20HEART%20FORM%202025.pdf
“We look forward to adding more names this year as we continue our efforts to preserve the legacy of any Niagara County resident who was wounded or killed fighting for our country,” Jastrzemski said. “If a family member knows of a Purple Heart veteran who may have passed, we can work with them to complete the necessary form to ensure their loved one’s contribution is forever enshrined on our monument and in the Book of Honor.”
Those with questions can call the clerk’s office at 716-439-7025 or the Veterans Service Agency at 716-438-4090. Jastrzemski said details for the Aug. 3 event will be forthcoming closer to the event.
