NEWBURYPORT — The Actors Studio of Newburyport presents “Daughters of The Appalachians” starting March 21 and ending March 30, at its Salisbury-based theater.
Performances take place March 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30. Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. The Actors Studio is located at 1 Merrill St., No. 3, Salisbury. Tickets are $27/25 and can be purchased online at www.newburyportacting.org
In 2005, Arlene Barnard and Marc Clopton adapted Linda Goodman’s book into a play, with her blessing. The stories are populated with six characters, each with their own unique voice bolstered by the live music of award-winning composer and instrumentalist E.J. Ouellette on fiddle and banjo.
Set in the mountains of Western Virginia, “Daughters of Appalachians” will transport attendees inside a geographical locale that cannot be separated from the culture it spawned. Further enhancing this year’s production is Muriel Baillie’s choreography and her dancers.
Immediately following the final performance, Ouellette and his band, Crazy Maggie, will perform at the studio.
Featured actors include Donna Story, Catherine Volinsky, Mary-Liz Murray, Stephanie Charlton, Heidi Sanger and Cathy Hersh. Featured dancers are Muriel Baillie, Sean Gibbons, Andrew Pelzer and Kaya Reiss.
