The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Crab-Orchard Chapter and the Wreaths Across America will host a wreath-laying ceremony at Haley’s Grove Cemetery, Crab Orchard.
It is one of more than 4,225 other locations across the country for National Wreaths Across America Day.
Coordinated by The Crab-Orchard Chapter and led by the city of Crab Orchard, individuals and sponsorship groups have raised funds throughout the year to sponsor the placement of 188 veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of fallen service members laid to rest at Haley’s Grove Cemetery.
This annual event seeks to further the Wreaths Across America yearlong mission to remember, honor and teach — ensuring that the memory of those served endures.
Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. It is carried out each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.
The ceremony will be at noon Dec. 14, regardless of weather at the entrance of the Haley’s Grove Cemetery. The cemetery is off Hwy. 70, and is the only major cemetery in Crab Orchard.
The laying of the wreaths on the veterans’ graves is open to the public. There will be veterans’ organizations, family members, church members, sponsored groups, school children, and others who will be actively involved.
All are welcome to participate.
