The Crab-Orchard Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution participated in the display of trees at First National Bank, Crossville again this year.
The theme of this year’s entry is The Boston Tea Party. It celebrates the 250th anniversary of the historic raid by the Sons of Liberty to dump the British East India Company tea aboard ships in the Boston Harbor that took place Dec. 16, 1773.
Patriots protested the taxation policies of the British King and determined to boycott the drinking of tea.
This year’s tree is decorated with tea bags imprinted with the British flag, along with patriotic symbols that include red, white and blue decorations and silhouettes of Patriot ancestors of local Chapter members.
Beneath the tree are burlap wrapped “bundles” representing the bales of tea and small signs showing the slogan “No taxation without representation” that was a rallying cry for the protestors. The trees will be on display until Dec. 28. The DAR tree is situated near other trees erected by military organizations in the main lobby.
