Haley’s Grove Cemetery, Crab Orchard, an official Wreaths Across America location, will host a wreath-laying ceremony, joining more than 4,200 other locations across the country on National Wreaths Across America Day. Coordinated and led by the Crab-Orchard Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, volunteers and other groups have helped raise funds throughout the year. They have helped sponsor the placement of 250 veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of our fallen service members laid to rest there and at other smaller nearby cemeteries. This annual event seeks to further the yearlong mission to remember, honor, and teach, which ensures that the memory of those who served our country will endure. This annual event is the only one of its kind that takes place in Cumberland County.
The laying of the wreaths will take place on Dec. 13, 2025, at noon – regardless of weather. Haley’s Grove Cemetery is located in Crab Orchard on Highway 70 East. Crab Orchard Mayor Emmett Sherrill will open the ceremony and General Ulysses S. Grant, portrayed by Dr. E. C. Fields, Jr., will be placing a wreath at the foot of the U.S. Army flag. This event is open to the public and is friendly for all ages.
The DAR will be set-up at the following festivals offering wreath sales: Crab Orchard Fall Festival, Sept. 6; Crab Orchard Christian Church Festival, Sept. 13; Upper Cumberland Big Foot Festival, Oct. 18.
