August Beanstack Reading Challenge: Back to School! This challenge is open to all ages, whether you’re heading back to the classroom or simply love to read. Set your goals, track your reading minutes throughout the month, and complete the challenge by Aug. 31 for a chance to win our Back to School Prize Pack.
Tuesday: Teen Crafternoons. Hang out and make cool stuff. No sign-up, no stress. Just show up and create something awesome. This week: Diamond Painting – create a masterpiece … piece by piece. While supplies last. This program, intended for ages 13-19, will be from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Second Floor Teen Space.
Tuesday: Virtual Author Talk. Join us for a conversation that’s sure to warm your heart and make your stomach rumble, as we delve into the legacy of cooking icon Julia Child with Smithsonian curator and public historian Paula J. Johnson, author of Julia Child’s Kitchen: The Design, Tools, Stories, and Legacy of an Iconic Space at 1 p.m. via digital live-stream in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium. Tuesday: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under at 10 a.m. in the Program Room.
Wednesday: Little House Lunches – Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie – Free Library Screening. Spend your lunch hour on the prairie. Join us each Wednesday in August for exclusive free screenings of this new series. Watch two episodes each week as we follow the journey of Ingalls family across the frontier. This week: Episodes 1 and 2. Bring your own lunch, relax, and enjoy this fresh take on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved classic from noon to 2 p.m. in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
Wednesday: Teen Writing Club. We’ve got writing prompts and games to spark your imagination and snacks (while supplies last) to fuel your mind. Come write, chill, and connect with other teen writers. No pressure, just good vibes, cool ideas, and a space to be creative. This program is from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Second Floor Teen Space.
Saturday: Back to School Bash. Get ready for a groovy day of mystery, laughter, and back-to-school fun inspired by everyone’s favorite crime-solving canine and their gang. All ages may join us for cartoons, games, crafts, prizes, and snacks, while supplies last, as we say goodbye to summer and welcome a new school year. Gather your friends and see if you can guess our mystery theme. Check our website for specific times. Look for events all day in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
Saturday: Saturday Morning Cartoons – Back to School Bash. Cartoons? Cereal? …CRIME?!? Start your day with cereal and a classic cartoon marathon! Feel free to wear your pajamas, bring the family, and enjoy a morning of laughter, snacks, and mystery-solving fun. While supplies last from 9-10 a.m. in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
Saturday: Lotería: Mystery Edition – Back to School Bash. Join us for a bilingual game of Lotería with plenty of tail-wagging fun and puptastic prizes! While supplies last from 10-11 a.m. in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
Saturday: Story Time. Have a great time listening, interacting to stories and making a fun craft. Saturdays at 11 a.m. in the Children’s Department.
Saturday: Midday Movies – Back to School Bash. The gang’s all here… and another mystery is about to unfold. Take a break, grab a snack, and settle in for a family-friendly movie filled with laughs, surprises, and a few clues along the way. Perfect for junior detectives of all ages. While supplies last from 1-4 p.m. in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.

American Conversation Project: We’re partnering with the American Conversation Project to record community conversations to be part of the National Public ACP Collection, marking the 250th Anniversary of the Nation.
