WESTVILLE — Early in our lives, birthdays are very special days.
As we grow older, they become just another day in the year.
But then it come back full circle and a birthday is like a sacred holiday.
Danville’s Christian Walter “Romy” Rommersckirchen had one of those on Saturday. Family and friends gathered at Dave’s Double Barrell BBQ in Westville to celebrate his 103rd birthday.
Rommersckirchen was born in Pocahontas in 1923. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1943-46 at both Morris Field and Moody Air Force Base, working on B-25 Mitchell bombers.
After the war, Rommersckirchen moved to Danville and started work at the General Electric factory. He met his wife of 73 years, Doris, and the they raised three children, Donald, Brenda and Connie.
