DANVILLE — Right now, voters are casting or will cast ballots for the midterm elections.
That civic duty will continue into the spring of 2027 with the City of Danville holding a mayoral primary.
Sandy Delhaye with the Danville Election Commission said that with Rev. Frank McCullough officially entering the race for mayor by filing his paperwork on Thursday, a primary taking place on Feb. 23, 2027 has been triggered.
“Just come out and vote,” Delhaye said. “I mean, even though it’s a primary, and it’ll probably be a small primary, and the primaries are there for a reason, and that is to better serve the voters of Danville.”
Current Mayor Rickey Williams Jr., along with Alderman Doug Ahrens, Alderwoman Tricia Teague, Dennis Witsman, a former Danville Police officer, and McCullough are all running for the mayoral position.
Delhaye said there will be a lottery at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, for placement on the ballot for the first four candidates.
“There will be a lottery because there were four people in line at the same time,” she said. “That that will place them one to four, or actually one to five, because Frank McCullough doesn’t get to be in the lottery. After all, he didn’t file simultaneously with the others.”
The final day to file for the 2027 Consolidated Primary Election, which also includes all city council positions and city treasurer, is Monday, Oct. 26.
There will also be a mayoral forum at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Fischer Theater. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the forum begins at 6.
The forum is sponsored by Life Building Institute of Success and will be directed by Pastor Ken McCray.
The top two from the mayoral primary will compete in the consolidated election on April 7, 2027.
