DANVILLE — Bryce Ross, 41, of Danville was sentenced to prison Tuesday for a weapon possession.
In an official release from the State’s Attorney’s Office, Ross pled guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon by felon, a class 2 felony and he was sentenced to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The sentence for Ross will be followed by a term of a year of mandatory supervised release.
The People presented evidence that on July 1, 2024, an officer with the Danville Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop for an Illinois Vehicle Code violation. The driver did not immediately stop. The officer observed the driver wave his hand out the window as though signaling for the officer to pass. The driver eventually stopped in a parking lot. Ross exited the vehicle and began walking away despite the officer’s commands to return to the vehicle. He was subsequently taken into custody. Ross then informed officers that a firearm was inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded .45-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun containing six rounds in the magazine.
“This defendant chose to ignore the law, engaging in criminal behavior despite felony convictions,” said State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy, who also thanked the Danville Police Department, “Offenders who illegally possess firearms pose a serious threat to public safety.”
The plea and sentencing were presided over by Judge Karen Wall.
