DANVERS — The Danvers Human Rights & Inclusion Committee and the Danvers Public Schools will host the town’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Jan. 20, from 4-6 p.m. in the Danvers High School Atrium.
Danvers’ day of celebration will center on questions of how do we move through our day-to-day lives as the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. called us to and what are community members’ visions for the town that build on the legacy King laid down for us. The afternoon will kick off with an open house where guests can tour a student art exhibit and children, youth, and adults will be invited to take part in interactive community building activities.
The hallmark of the gathering will be marked by student musical performances, presentation of the Seed of Hope Award, and snapshot narratives from Danvers community members who will share how they are moving like MLK through their life and work here.
Danvers resident Mark Anthony Hunter, a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., of which King was also a member, will share his reflections on MLK and the challenges and opportunities for us within his legacy today.
This event is free, open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
