DANNEMORA — It took nearly a year of planning, but on Thursday, Maggy Pharmacy celebrated its new clinic.
A ribbon cutting and dedication to the founders event were held as the business officially opened its new clinic space within the pharmacy. It’s designed to provide a “private” and “comfortable” space for patients, according to the owners.
The event also served as a dedication of the clinic to Leo “Skip” Maggy, the founder of Maggy Pharmacy, and his late wife, Phyllis.
“I can’t believe it. It’s great,” Skip said. “I am so lucky that they keep up with the latest in care.”
The newly-constructed clinic includes two private consultation rooms and a dedicated diabetes education space.
“We wanted a comfortable, private space for our patients,” Mark Maggy, co-owner of the pharmacy, said on Thursday.
The clinic was created in response to the pharmacy’s growing needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the high volume of immunizations and using temporary pop-up barriers when interacting with patients.
According to Mark, this is a new approach to care for such businesses.
“This is new for pharmacies,” he said. “Most do not have private spaces for consultation.”
The diabetes education room will host diabetes self-management education and support programs, which offer guidance for patients managing the disease.
The programs will provide hands-on support in areas like behavioral changes, medication management and glucose monitoring, all as a measure of preventative care.
“The whole point is to work with our patients to prevent complications,” Mark explained.
He added that the clinic is the result of nearly a year of planning and was completed over the winter.
“We are just getting the space ready for our patients and hoping to get ahead of complications,” Mark said.
