PLATTSBURGH — Delve deep into the sauce with Dan Ladue, author of “Two With, Buried: The History of the Michigan Hot Dog” in honor of Michigan Fest.
At 1 p.m. July 25, the Plattsburgh resident will give a 30-minute presentation on the book’s genesis and talk about his new work at the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, 5139 N Catherine St.
“This is inspired by our Michigan Fest coming up,” Patricia Cosgrove, program coordinator at the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, said. “I knew about his book because we had bought it. I am a big fan of Michigans. I grew up on Michigans. My mom has her own recipe that she has passed down, and it’s a little on the sweeter side, which I like. I think it’s kind of French-Canadian that way, the origin.”
July is Michigan Month in the town of Plattsburgh.
“A Michigan Dog, or a Michigan as it is commonly referred to, is traditionally a natural casing hot dog in a split top bun, topped with a specially seasoned meat sauce, served with optional mustard and onions which you can order on top or buried under the sauce,” according to: townofplattsburghny.gov.
The 2025 Inaugural Michigan Fest 2025 will be held Aug. 2 at the Clinton County Fairgrounds, 173 Track Way, Morrisonville.
The event is hosted by the town of Plattsburgh, Dannemora Federal Credit Union and UFirst Federal Credit Union.
Cosgrove thought it would be great for Laude to talk to seniors before Michigan Fest “to get everybody excited,” she said.
“On that day, the Senior Citizens Council Nutrition Program is serving Michigans,” Cosgrove said. “So at noon, we’re going to have Michigans. They do a great Michigan sauce, so it’s very popular already. Dan said he’s going to come and try our Michigans. So, we are very excited to have him. If you have copies of his book, he will sign it for you, which is great.”
