The board of Dalton Utilities approved requests for proposals for two projects on Monday.
The first is a rehabilitation of part of the utility’s water system that calls for the replacement of 40,100 feet of failing pipe. In the city of Dalton, pipe will be replaced along North Glenwood Avenue, Woodland Circle and Keith Street. On the Westside, pipe will be replaced on Bandy Lane, Springhill Heights, Hickory Lane, Huckleberry Lane and Quarles Road. And on the Eastside, pipe will be replaced on Mitchell Bridge Road, Highway 225, Keith Mill Road and Chatsworth Highway.
Bids are due Feb. 7, and the utility estimates the project will take 365 days to complete once work begins.
The second project will be reliability improvements to the natural gas system in the area around Otis Cook Memorial Tree Park.
The project calls for replacing 25,000 feet of two-inch steel mains, which was laid in the 1960s, with high-density polyethylene pipe and replacing any associated services in need. Bids are due Feb. 14, and the utility estimates the work will be completed by Dec. 31, 2024.
