Both the men’s and women’s golf teams at Dalton State College traveled to West Point, Mississippi, to take part in the Blue Mountain Christian Classic on Monday and Tuesday.
The men finished a weather-shortened tournament tied for first place, while the Lady Roadrunners finished in a tie for second in the women’s field.
The Roadrunner men finished tied for first place with Point University, with both schools finishing with a 589 total. Dalton State was a stroke back of Point after the first round, then finished a stroke ahead of Point in the second round to finish with the tie.
Host Blue Mountain Christian finished two strokes behind at 591 in third. Southwestern Christian was fourth and William Carey was fifth.
Steve Kibare and Brock Hoover both finished as Dalton State’s top individuals at a tie for third. Kibare shot a 73 in both rounds to finish 2-over for the tournament and, while Hoover shot a 70 in round one and 76 in round two to finish in a tie with Kibare, Blue Mountain’s Braden Jones and Hayden Jackson from Point.
DSC’s Jack Whaley finished in a tie for seventh in the field at 3-over, and Jarod Edwards was tied for 14th with a 6-over.
The Dalton State women finished in a tie for second with Lindsey Wilson College at 629 for the two-round tournament.
Both schools finished six strokes back of William Carey, who won the tournament with a 629. Loyola was fourth and Spring Hill College finished fifth.
Lady Roadrunner Mailey Buzzell finished second in the individual standings with a 7-over, while DSC’s Sydney Hermann finished one stroke back with an 8-over to take a tie for third place. Dalton State’s Sara Burger finished in a tie for seventh with a 12-over.
Both the Dalton State men and women return to Dalton for their home tournaments next.
The men host the Roadrunner Classic at The Farm in Rocky Face starting April 8, while the Lady Roadrunners host the Roadrunner Women’s Invitational at Nob North in Cohutta starting April 8.
