The city of Dalton has purchased a fingerprint scanner from Eagle Solutions of Carrollton for $12,845.
Assistant City Administrator Todd Pangle said the scanner will allow Municipal Court to fingerprint people who were given citations and not jailed. It will also be used to fingerprint applicants for positions in the fire and police departments. And it will be used by the police department to fingerprint applicants for alcohol licenses.
Pangle said previously the fire department sent applicants to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office to be fingerprinted and the police department sent people to a local pawn shop. The pawn shop was also the place where applicants for alcohol licenses were sent to be fingerprinted.
The purchase of the scanner includes a $2,910 maintenance agreement for the second year.
