Sturdy 6-foot-1 defenseman is now a three-time All-CAL selection and two-time Daily News All-Star. Junior tri-captain helped Amesbury (11-8-2) win the CAL Baker title and make the Division 4 playoffs. Had his best offensive production this winter with 9 goals and 12 assists. Brings his three-year career total up to 16 goals and 26 assists. Leader of arguably the best blue line core in the league, which allowed a stingy average of just 16.0 shots on goal against per game, and only allowed two opponents to get more than 24 shots on goal. Had a goal and two assists in a win over Triton. Scored another goal with an assist against Nashoba, and found the back of the net against rival Newburyport. Assisted on goals in wins over Pentucket, North Reading, Rockport and Lynnfield. Was also a captain of the golf team this fall.
Evan Murphy
Amesbury, Jr., Defense
Now a two-time Daily News All-Star and two-time All-CAL selection. Junior tri-captain helped Amesbury (11-8-2) win the CAL Baker title and make the Division 4 playoffs. Had by far his best offensive campaign with 9 goals and 11 assists this winter, bringing his three-year career totals up to 14 goals and 25 helpers. But more so a leader of arguably the best blue line core in the league, which allowed just 16.0 shots on goal against per game, and only allowed two opponents to get more than 24 shots on goal. Scored a goal and had two assists in a win over Pentucket. Also found the back of the net against Triton, Nashoba, Methuen, Rockport and Westborough. Had a pair of 2-assist games against Norwell and Essex Tech. Feared defensive linemen in football had 47 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 8 sacks this fall in helping Amesbury reach the Division 7 Super Bowl for the second time in three years.
Grady Stickney
Amesbury, Soph., Forward
Electric sophomore took his game to another level this winter, earning his first All-CAL nod. Was second in our area in both goals (30) and assists (23), and finished tied for our area lead with 53 points. Incredibly, 11 of those goals came while shorthanded. It brings his two-year career totals up to 46 goals and 33 assists. Helped Amesbury (11-8-2) win the CAL Baker title and make the Division 4 playoffs. Scored five goals, including the overtime game-winner, against North Reading. Had four goals against Norwell, and poured in another hat-trick in a win over Melrose. Also had a trio of 2-goal performances against Triton, Lynnfield and Rockport. Put together a 1-goal, 2-assist game in a win over Pentucket, and found the back of the net against rival Newburyport. Assisted on a goal in a dramatic overtime win over Essex Tech.
Tommy Puorro
Amesbury, Soph., Forward
Made our “Honorable Mention” list a year ago, but enjoyed a breakout season to earn his first spot on both the All-CAL team and our Daily News All-Star team. Scored 12 goals with 18 assists, helping Amesbury (11-8-2) win the CAL Baker title and make the Division 4 playoffs again. Now has 14 goals with 32 assists across two varsity seasons. Had four assists in an overtime win over North Reading. Another 1-goal, 2-assist game in a win over Triton, and had both a goal and an assist in a win over Lynnfield. A 2-assist game against Norwell, and scored goals against Newburyport and Essex Tech. Had assists against Billerica, Pentucket, Nashoba, Rockport and Beverly. His father is Amesbury legend Tom Puorro (AHS ‘94), who is still second all-time in area history with 198 career points after scoring 107 goals with 91 assists.
Jagger Gudaitis
Newburyport, Sr., Defense
Senior went out enjoying his best season, helping Newburyport (12-8-3) win the CAL Kinney title and earn the No. 18 seed in the Division 2 tournament. Earned a spot on the All-CAL team. His best work, though, was mentoring the team’s young D-core, as Gudaitis was the only returner this year who had any significant previous varsity ice time. Chipped in offensively with 2 goals and 4 assists, scoring his first career goal against Lynnfield to help coach Paul Yameen earn win No. 275. Was named the MVP of the Bank Classic tournament after helping the Clippers earn wins over North Andover and Algonquin. Leader of defensive group that shut out King Philip and held solid Westford Academy and Essex Tech teams to just one goal. Also kept high-powered Franklin, Masconomet, and North Attleboro teams to just two goals.
Henry Waddell
Newburyport, Jr., Forward
Now a two-time Daily News All-Star and two-time All-CAL selection. The CAL Kinney MVP. Co-captain scored 19 goals with 24 assists, leading Newburyport (12-8-3) to a CAL Kinney title and the Division 2 state tournament. Currently sits at 89 career points (36g, 53a) heading into his senior year. Was named to the Bank Classic All-Tourney team, scoring a goal with an assist against Algonquin in the finals. Put up that same stat line against Gloucester, King Philip, Rockport and Triton (x2). Scored the team’s lone goal against state superpower St. John’s Prep in the annual Lt. Derek Hines Memorial Game. Had a hat-trick against Westford Academy, as well as 2-goal games in wins over Lynnfield and Dartmouth. A 1-goal, 3-assist night against Amesbury, and a 1-goal, 2-assist performance in a win over Pentucket. Honor Roll student also plays lacrosse and scored 17 goals with 13 assists last spring.
Luke MacIsaac
Newburyport, Jr., Forward
Also now a two-time Daily News All-Star and two-time All-CAL selection. Co-captain finished the season with 18 goals and 23 assists, leading Newburyport (12-8-3) to a CAL Kinney title and the Division 2 playoffs. Is currently at 91 career points (42g, 49a) heading into his senior season. Scored the team’s lone goal in a playoff loss to North Attleboro. Was named to the Bank Classic All-Tourney team, scoring a goal with an assist against Algonquin in the finals. Had a monster 3-goal, 3-assist night in a win over Amesbury. Scored twice against King Philip and Triton (including the game-winner). Put together 1-goal, 1-assist nights against Masconomet and Westford Academy. Scored against Lynnfield, and had assists against Gloucester and Essex Tech. Also plays lacrosse and had 14 goals with 7 assists last spring.
Jack Sullivan
Newburyport, Soph., Forward
Made our “Honorable Mention” list a year ago, but took that next step forward this winter to pick up both his first Daily News All-Star and All-CAL nod. Electric skater was on fire with 24 goals and 14 assists before unfortunately missing the team’s last six games with an injury. Still helped Newburyport (12-8-3) win the CAL Kinney title. Exploded for 4-goal games in wins over Triton and Pentucket (1a). Also had hat-tricks against both King Philip and Rockport — each wins — and scored twice during the team’s opening meeting against archrival Triton. Netted the overtime game-winner against Masconomet to cap a 2-goal, 1-assist night. Put up a 1-goal, 2-assist night in a win over Westford Academy, scored against Essex Tech, and had two assists against Amesbury. Currently sits at 63 career points (37g, 26a) heading into his junior season. Two-sport athlete also plays football.
Mac Cole
Pentucket, Sr., Defense
Four-year varsity player leaves as a two-time All-CAL selection who earned his first Daily News All-Star nod this winter. Tri-captain led Pentucket (8-13-1) to the Division 4 Round of 16 for the second straight year. Do-it-all defenseman was still tied for third on the team in scoring with 8 goals and 9 assists. Logged heavy minutes while leading a young group on the blue line. Clutch player. Scored twice during the team’s first-round overtime playoff victory over Lunenburg. Also had goals against Newburyport, Amesbury and Beverly during the regular season, and assisted on a goal against Methuen. Then on defense, helped the Panthers earn shutouts against Rockport (x2) and Lynn English. Also held Triton to just one goal, and both Haverhill and Longmeadow to two goals. Is a Daily News All-Star in lacrosse who scored 72 goals with 10 assists last spring.
