For everyone involved in both playing for and covering Pentucket hockey, the chase for all-time glory this season was thrilling.
Was Chase Pelletier ultimately going to do it?
Which, if you’ve been following along … he did.
The story has been chronicled multiple times now, but in this the 40th season of Pentucket hockey, Pelletier became its all-time leading scoring. A mantle he overtook during the opening round of the Division 4 playoffs, and added one more tally to during a season-ending loss in the Sweet 16 to finish with 130 career points (74g, 56a). Pelletier passed former program legends Richie Hardy (PRHS ‘21, 127 pts) and Billy Bomba (PRHS ‘04, 120 pts), who up to this season were the only two in program history to have reached the 100-point career milestone.
Yeah, pretty worthy to be named our 2025-26 Daily News Boys Hockey MVP.
But make no mistake, this isn’t a “career achievement” award.
When naming Daily News MVPs for every sport, the main question we ask is: Who had the best individual season of our local athletes? Overall team success plays a small factor as well, along with trying to determine how each team would do if you took that MVP candidate off of it.
And in all of those categorites, Pelletier shined just a bit brighter than the rest.
The senior captain from Georgetown led our area in goals this winter with 34, and his 19 assists found him tied for our area lead in total points (53). He was named the CAL Baker MVP following the regular season, and now leaves as a three-time All-CAL selection (1x MVP) and two-time Daily News All-Star (1x MVP). Behind Pelletier, Pentucket (8-13-1) made the Division 4 playoffs as the No. 18 seed, and earned a victory before bowing out to eventual state champion Littleton — the No. 2 seed — in the Round of 16.
And in the biggest moments, he was nails.
Pelletier scored a goal while assisting on another against Lunenburg in the first round, then found the back of the net again against Littleton in the Sweet 16. He had a pair of 4-goal performances in wins over Triton and North Reading, then recorded a hat-trick in a non-league game against Methuen. There was a 2-goal, 1-assist game against Newburyport, and his 1-goal, 3-assist night against Rockport put him over 100 career points. He also found the back of the net against a solid Essex Tech team, and scored a goal to lead the Panthers to a big win over Amesbury.
A two-sport athlete, Pelletier has also been a top member of the Georgetown golf team over the past four years. His winter ended by being named the Cape Ann League’s recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, and he was honored — along with the other recipients from conferences across the state — by the Boston Bruins during their game against the Winnipeg Jets on March 19th.
