INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Cumberland native Ty Johnson scored the longest touchdown of his six-year pro career Sunday.
The Fort Hill graduate caught a screen pass from Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, made a cut and found a seam down the left sideline to find the end zone from 41 yards out against the Los Angeles Rams with 10:23 to play in the second quarter.
It was Allen’s 250th career total touchdown.
Johnson nearly scored a touchdown earlier in the game as the target of another screen, but he was tripped up at the six-yard line after gaining 14 yards. He ended with two receptions for 55 yards.
The Bills went on to lose 44-42 to fall to 10-3. The Rams improved to 7-6.
The receiving score was the 12th of Johnson’s NFL career and seventh receiving touchdown. It’s his third TD through the air this year and fourth overall.
At Fort Hill, Johnson led the Sentinels to back-to-back state titles in 2013 and 2014 and was area Player of the Year both seasons.
A sixth round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2019, Johnson is one of four players to have 4,000 all-purpose yards at the University of Maryland, joining Stefon Diggs, Torrey Smith and LaMont Jordan.
