POTOMAC PARK — Cumberland Optimist scored two runs in the seventh inning to defeat Riverside, 5-3, in Hot Stove Senior Division action on Tuesday at Memorial Field.
Optimist (1-0) trailed 3-2 entering the sixth when Clay Bailey tied the game with a sacrifice fly. The go-ahead run was pushed across by Liam Buck in the seventh, who walked with the bases loaded.
Buck had two hits for Optimist. Chase Deremer led Riverside (0-1) with three hits and two RBIs, and Trent Lapp singled twice.
Dylan Blank, Gage Swain and Bailey combined to hold Riverside to one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings of relief. Swain struck out three over three innings, and Blank tossed two shutout frames of one-hit ball.
Riverside’s Colt Resh allowed a run on two hits in two innings with five strikeouts, and Coye Resh relieved him, allowing two runs on four hits in four frames.
Optimist faces Growden Heating and Cooling at Memorial Field on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Riverside takes on Northern Senior at Northern High School on Friday at 6 p.m.
Mettiki Coal 9 American Woodmark 3
OAKLAND — Mettiki Coal jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings to cruise to a win over American Woodmark on Tuesday at Southern High School.
Ryan Bird belted a two-run home run in the second inning, Peyton Shaffer had a two-RBI triple in the first, Blake Burrell, Cole Parks and Lucas Lambert all doubled, and Parks, Bird and Shaffer had two hits apiece.
Bird tossed three shutout innings of one-hit ball with eight strikeouts and one walk. Jacob Welch earned the win in relief, surrendering three runs (one earned) on three hits in four frames with six Ks and four walks.
Kaleb Steele had two runs batted in for American Woodmark. Ryder Lewis took the loss on the mound.
Mettiki Coal (1-1) battles Northern Senior on Monday at 6 p.m. at Southern High. American Woodmark (1-1) takes on Riverside Sports on Monday at 7 p.m. at Westmar Middle.
Junior Division Outdoor Power 10 Chessie FCU 0
POTOMAC PARK — Josiah Dudiak and Max Fradiska tallied two RBIs each, and Outdoor Power stayed perfect with a five-inning combined no-hitter against Chessie Federal Credit Union on Tuesday at Memorial Field.
Outdoor Power (3-0) scored at least two runs in each of the last four innings. Dudiak had two hits.
Dylan Irons recorded the win on the bump, throwing four no-hit innings with eight strikeouts and three walks. Dudiak tossed a no-hit fifth.
Outdoor Power faces Southern Junior on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., and it takes on the Cresaptown Eagles on Monday at Memorial Field at 7:30 p.m.
Chessie plays D&D Motors on Friday at Memorial Field at 7:30 p.m.
Flintstone 19 Cumberland Rotary 4
FLINTSTONE — Flintstone racked up 14 hits en route to a five-inning romp of Cumberland Rotary on Tuesday night.
Flintstone (2-1) scored five runs in the first frame and seven runs in the second and fourth innings.
Silas Leith had three hits with five runs batted in and three runs scored, Lincoln Hendershot tallied three hits, Tristan Sheeder hit safely twice and Eeaston Conley scored three times. Brody Norris, Willie Stewart and Leith all doubled.
Carson Wilhelm drove in two runs for Cumberland Rotary.
Flintstone hosts Bedford on Friday at 6 p.m. Cumberland Rotary takes on Bedford at Memorial Field on Monday at 5 p.m.
