We’ve heard more than one complaint about this week’s rainy weather. Not only did we need the precipitation, the rain brought out the pop of color we enjoy in the fall foliage on the Plateau. Seeing the familiar reds, yellows and oranges tells us that autumn is indeed here, and Cumberland Mountain State Park is one of the area’s prime spots to enjoy its beauty. A lone fisherman takes advantage of a break in the weather earlier this week to hook the big one from Byrd Lake. No doubt he’s counting the days until such outdoor pastimes will be put on hold, at least for a while. He certainly couldn’t have picked a more picturesque backdrop for his hobby. The brilliance of the leaves aren’t the only things reminding Cumberland County that fall is here. Today is Halloween, and little spooks will pursue their annual candy haul, either trick or treating house to house or taking advantage of various Trunk or Treats designed for safety. Motorists are asked to practice extra caution as the sun sets and our littlest Cumberland Countians go in pursuit of Snickers, Reese’s and other favorite brands. In case anyone needs an additional reminder, we turn our clocks back an hour Saturday night for Standard Time. Like it or not, fall is here. Next up: Thanksgiving and Christmas.
