CROWN POINT — The Town of Crown Point, in coordination with the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, recently celebrated the completion of accessibility and park enhancements at Veterans Memorial Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The improvements include a new ADA-accessible pathway, accessible seating and picnic amenities, and additional park enhancements such as lights along the path.
In his remarks, Chamber President and CEO Matt Courtwright said, “The recent improvements include a more welcoming and inclusive space for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. These upgrades make it easier for everyone to enjoy the park’s recreational opportunities, community events, concerts, and gatherings.
“We would like to thank the Town of Crown Point for their continued partnership with the Chamber as we all work together to improve our communities. Together, we are small towns with big opportunities and building strong partnerships are key to our continued and collective success.”
CP Council Member Walt Worth added, “This had been in the back of my mind for years. We were amazed how people pulled up to help. I was glad to see the first wheelchair use the path and people walking on it. There were Canadians that came by to use it. It was great to see baby strollers and kids on tricycles use it. It gives the park character.
“People could now walk through the park rather than walk along the road. We did something right. This has been the perfect scenario. I had been waiting to do this for over five years.”
Worth thanked Roy Cutting of Cutting Excavation and Paving who donated the use of their equipment. The only things purchased were gravel, blacktop and lights which Worth estimated amounted to $85,000, of which none was incurred by the taxpayers.
After the ceremony Cutting said, “It’s great to have the support of all the Crown Point people. We all got it together. Originally we had hoped to do it on Memorial Day but the weather did not allow it.”
In addition to the town’s Memorial Day celebration, throughout the summer the park is the site for a market of locally produced goods and music.
