Cookeville Regional Medical Center recently congratulated nurse Macy Nix, RN, as the latest DAISY Award recipient.
Macy received a recommendation from a patient that said, “I would like to nominate Macy for the DAISY Award because she is truly an extraordinary nurse. When a serious medical event hit our immediate community, we felt overwhelmed, scared and unsure of what to expect. Macy’s presence made all the difference. From the moment she walked into the room, her loving and compassionate personality shined through. She always had a warm smile, a calm and uplifting spirit, and a way of connecting that made us feel like everything was going to be okay. Macy provided treatment with so much kindness and respect, always making sure our loved one felt comfortable, heard, and cared for … She also took the time to explain the process to us in a way we could understand, which meant so much during such a scary time. One of the things that stood out the most was Macy’s ability to inject levity into the situation — even in the hospital, even in the middle of all the fear. Her funny, light- hearted demeanor brought so much joy into the room … We are forever grateful for Macy’s compassion, strength, and heart. She is the kind of nurse who leaves a lasting impact, and she is so deserving of the DAISY Award.”
Nurses can be nominated by anyone — patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians, and staff who experience or observe extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
