Creative Compassion recently partnered with Kids on the Rise for a fun evening of new home construction.
The kids were given birdhouse kits that were purchased by Creative. They and their mentors worked together to build the birdhouses, including adding creative touches with paint.
Creative Compassion’s Mark Baldwin delivered the kits and was on hand to be assistance if anyone had any questions about the kits. He also told the youths a little about what Creative Compassion does for the community.
“We also have a scholarship at TCAT in honor of our founder, Mike Smathers,” Baldwin said. “I’d be happy to put in a good word for you if you decide to apply for one someday!”
Baldwin expressed appreciation for Sarah Dickenson, Kids on the Rise program director.
“Her interaction with the kids is inspiring,” he said. “She goes out of her way to make sure everyone has a good time and is taken care of.”
This is the latest partnership between Creative Compassion and Kids on the Rise. In December, Creative Compassion sponsored gingerbread house building with the kids and their mentors.
“Fun and engaging opportunities for kids to learn and spend time together with adults is such an important part of their development,” said Pam Burris, Kids on the Rise director. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Creative Compassion to help our students learn more about homeownership so we can begin to think about possibilities for their future in a fun way.”
Burris said the mentoring relationship is beneficial for both children and mentors. She added there is always a waiting list for kids who need a caring adult to spend time with them.
