MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — A motor vehicle crash Monday morning has left the driver with minor injuries after the car crashed into a fire hydrant and flipped over on Summer Street.
The crash was reported by North Shore Regional Dispatch at 8:12 a.m. when the car plowed into the hydrant.
Fire Chief James McNeilly reported the vehicle flipped over during the crash, which took place in the 300 block of Summer Street.
“It instills the importance of wearing seat belts,” said McNeilly, who added the driver was wearing his seatbelt. “That’s why he only had minor injuries.”
Manchester Fire Lt. Robert Cavender said the single-car crash forced police and fire officials to close a portion of Summer Street from about 8:20 a.m. until approximately 9 a.m.
Cavender reported the driver refused a medical transport after the crash. He said the vehicle eventually landed on its wheels after the crash.
Manchester Fire said it responded with Engine 1, Ambulance 1 and C1.
Also responding were Manchester Police, the Department of Public Works, the Manchester Water Department and Tally’s Towing Service.
