TICONDEROGA — A fire near downtown Ticonderoga heavily damaged a Park Avenue home and killed several pets.
Kody and Kayla Whitford were out of town when their 57 Park Ave. house caught fire early Monday morning.
THREE CATS DIED
The residence is owned by Darrell and Holly Frasier and was insured, but the Whitford’s did not have renters’ insurance, a GoFundMe page said.
Unfortunately, three cats perished in the fire, Essex County Emergency Services Director Matthew Watts said.
The fire is under investigation by the Essex County Fire Investigation Unit, Watts said, but is not considered suspicious. Fire investigators and deputy fire coordinators were on site immediately after the fire, Watts said.
Ticonderoga firefighters got mutual aid from Crown Point and Putnam fire companies. Ticonderoga EMS was on scene and Hague firefighters were on standby at Ticonderoga’s station.
RED CROSS, GOFUNDME
The Whitford’s are staying with family members while they seek new housing, fire officials reported.
Volunteers from the Northeastern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross provided emergency aid to the Whitford’s after the fire.
The Red Cross provided financial assistance for shelter, food and clothing. Volunteers also offered emotional support and comfort kits containing personal care items, a release said.
Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help the family as they navigate the road to recovery, the agency said.
No injuries were reported in fighting the fire.
