Vinemont’s varsity girls held off Holly Pond 41-38 on Wednesday night to advance at this year’s Cullman County Basketball Tournament.
The No. 5 Eagles, who avenged an early season loss to the fourth-seeded Broncos, led by 10 with just more than five minutes remaining.
Holly Pond, though, produced a 10-2 run to make it 40-38 with 35 seconds left.
Following a couple of turnovers and missed free throws, Whitney Quick made one from the charity stripe to put Vinemont ahead by three with 6 seconds remaining.
The Broncos had a chance to tie, but Madison Butts’ lengthy 3-pointer just missed its mark as the buzzer sounded.
Vinemont will play No. 1 Good Hope in the semifinals on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
